Description
If you feed a lot of horses outdoors or in a large shelter, it is handy to feed in a large hay rack.
To prevent waste and make horses eat more slowly, you can place a frame with a slowfeeder net inside the rack. In this way the hay stays neatly in the rack, and your horse eats small amounts of hay at a time, which is good for digestion.
We can make these frames to measure for you. You can choose a net with a mesh of 3 cm / 4.5 cm or 6.5 cm.
How do you order this frame in the right size without paying too much?
Square metres: Calculate the number of square metres of your frame. For example, if you want a frame of 80 x 120 cm, this is 0.8 x 1.2 = 0.96 m2 (square metre). Check the list to see where your size falls, and order that size in 3 or 4.5 cm mesh. The price is for the frame and net, made to measure.
Frame dimensions: When you complete your order, you can state the outer dimensions of the slowfeeder frame in the comments. If the inside of your hay rack is 80 x 80 cm, for example, the outside of your frame must be at least 3 cm smaller, so 77 x 77 cm. Always measure at the point where the rack is narrowest. If there are beams in the corners, for example, take these into account, and the frame must fit between them.
Maximum size: Please note! We can ship lengths of up to a maximum of 170 centimetres (so the outside of the frame would then be 1.70 x 1.70 metres). If you want a larger frame, this may be possible if you collect it yourself.
If something goes wrong with your order, or if you prefer to order by email, you can always email [email protected].
Fixing: We put the net around it for you; you only need to assemble the corners with the Allen key provided. Make sure you tighten them properly, or the frame may come apart. If your horse pulls the whole frame out of the hay rack, secure the frame with 4 cords. On one side, attach clips to the cords so you can easily open and close them.
Making a hay rack
If you cut an IBC container in half, you can make an inexpensive hay rack from it. You can also make a hay rack from wooden pallets or other timber. It is handy to make the base from a plastic pallet, so the wood does not rot. Always make sure it is safe for your horse!
